The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our first choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.
It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works while you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and offer more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds and cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the competition. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuum best in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it's going to cost you more and make more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty these areas are.
If you own a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. A stairway mode is useful if you have a number of furniture. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum with mop vacuum to resume where it left off could be extremely useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
