Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.
It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxy units this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the sole robot hoover and mop vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing some more volume and some additional cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, and cleans and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty those areas tend to be.
For larger homes it's worth looking for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. Additionally the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans an area.
