1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They are equipped with motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model), they use intelligent mapping to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also feature a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.
It's still a good value particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and look better. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some extra cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot mop makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home via the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Additionally a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots that vacuum and mop we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to create a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app also grants access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we have test. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
