Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and works while you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum best that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robot autonomous vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and better-looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's more expensive and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not foolproof in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty those areas are.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.
