One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work, or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and a little more cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
