However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you are at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best automatic vacuum cleaner robot vacuum for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and better-looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient, but it will cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on the degree of dirt they are.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a large furniture. Also, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. And you can create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
