World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and increase other stats.

The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests Each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its base stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on who you hire and what you do. This is due to how many perks must be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at a lower level. Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.

Using the item level can help players compare the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a useful indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it is capable of causing. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a vendor.

The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are many theories about how the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the item's value. This could result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is usually very close to Blizzard's real item level.

However, this isn't the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, as the level of the region the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding an additional level to its haste rating or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The item's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in various ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats of a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modification which are then increased by the player's skill.

Upgrades to the item add by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. For example, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare levels will be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Another way to change the stats of an item is by affixing it. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Affixes can be used to give the item extra damage, add a special ability to the item upgrader kit (such as reviving the dead or cutting down the cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an exclusive name to the item.

Currently, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by the arrows that circle. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and other items that can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other options for rerolling.

Players can choose to upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll affixes. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However every item will have at least one stat in the range, unless they are an exclusive item or a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another aspect that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or deciding which stats to boost. But, like base equipment, this would need to be done on a per-item upgrader mod level, and the item compare interface wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is particularly advantageous in early game runs because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each item level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons come with the default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to increase the value of 40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Furthermore, certain items, like the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow can be used to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or created using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be costly and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their items if it does not work.

The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased so much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..

The performance of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of that item. All items have an average success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above items in the inventory. This can block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
