Noah Pinsonnault works as a product analyst at Good Housekeeping's Home Care and Cleaning Lab.
He conducts tests and reviews of cleaning appliances. His focus is on mopping and robot vacuum combinations. Multitaskers are a great option for those looking to get mopping off their to-do list. They have impressive mapping and obstacle avoidance capabilities, and some even wash and refill their own mopping pads to ensure a hands-free clean.
The Eufy S1 Pro
If you're looking for a robotic vacuum that also mops then this is the model to look for. It's smaller than the other models on this list, making it easier to navigate through tight corners and under furniture. It comes with a 220 degree Lidar that, when combined with the 3D Matrix Camera System, offers some of my favorite navigation and object avoidance capabilities I've seen in the form of a robotic vacuum. It packs a powerful 4600mAh battery that lasts for up to 170-minutes, if mopping and suction are set to standard mode (it can run longer in turbo). It can even return to the dock to top up its battery part way through an efficient.
It's extremely efficient and does a great job of cleaning my two bedroom apartment. It vacuums the carpeted areas extremely quickly, and hardwood floors in the kitchen, hallways, and living room in one go. Its 8,000pa suction motor is quick at picking up sand, dirt, and pet hair. Carpet detection increases power automatically when it comes into contact with rugs, and the dual side brushes help draw away debris from corners.
The mopping performance is a little less impressive, though not by much. The mop rotates at a high velocity and is pushed down with 2.2lbs of force, effortlessly cleaning up dirt and staining. I've noticed that the front arm extends out a bit more than other robots. This is helpful in difficult corners or along baseboards. The front arms can be employed to clean up larger debris, like broken toys and fallen books.
Another good thing is that the S1 Pro is one of the quietest robot vacuums and mops I've ever used. It is quieter and doesn't make more noise when vacuuming or mopping. The only drawback is that the S1 Pro must use a proprietary cleaning solution for its mopping function and is separate from the vacuum. It's simple to set up and works well, but this is something you'll need to keep an eye on if you're buying this robot vacuum for the sole reason of mopping.
The Roborock Q Revo
The Q Revo stands apart from most robot vacuums that mops in its class. It is a powerful cleaning machine with a range of features.
The device comes with an extremely powerful and impressive cleaning system that integrates LiDAR sensors and an RGB camera to map the home and detect furniture and other obstacles. This information can be used to clean effectively and methodically. This will result in an efficient, consistent clean that is also quite quick.
The Q Revo DuoRoller mop pad is capable of reaching many surfaces. This includes corners, baseboards and other hard to reach places. They also come with a stretchy side brush that can extend to reach the floor close to walls and other fixtures. The mop pads are also washable and can be dried to remove odors and prevent buildup.
Another notable feature is the app-based customization options. The Q Revo lets you adjust the suction level and select either a back-and-forth or a random pattern. You can also choose the number of passes, which will determine the speed at which it can move around your home. You can even choose to turn off the side brush to avoid damaging carpets and rugs.
It's expensive, but has many smart features. However, it's important to keep in mind that it has recurring costs, such as mopping supplies and maintenance. For instance brushrolls need to be replaced every six to 12 months or after 300 hours. The filter is to be cleaned every 150 hrs, and the mop pads should be changed every one to three months.
The robot vacuum that mops is rated highly on Amazon and offers a wide variety of physical automation features. The robot vacuum also has an energy button that doubles as the 'Clean button' and a 'Home button to send it back home after cleaning. It also comes with a multi-functional dock that automatically empty the dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The Shark Matrix Plus
If you're a professional with a lot of work or someone who wants an organized home that doesn't require a lot of time on chores The Shark Matrix Plus is a excellent option. Its powerful performance, intelligent navigation and long battery life allow you to maintain a clean house with minimal effort.
The Matrix Plus robot mop vacuum is a two-in-one mop and vacuum. It can do both vacuuming as well as mopping. The robot is divided into two modules, a dry bin and water tank that can be snapped out and in and a mopping module that has an elastomer pad. It's not the most modern thing to have separate modules for vacuuming and mopping but it does mean that you don't need to worry about changing disposable bags or refilling the tank with water.
The Matrix Plus performed well at both vacuuming and mopping. Its most impressive feature is its accurate floorplan map, which it utilizes when cleaning. The Matrix Plus was able to navigate effortlessly through rugs, furniture and other obstacles. The app lets you create 'No-Go Zones' and virtual barriers that prevent certain areas from being cleaned by a mop.
We also discovered that the Matrix Plus did surprisingly well at picking up hair from pets. It was able to capture some of the hair that sheds from our cats. It even got into the corners and crevices of our stairs, where other robots had struggled. The noise levels were low and there were nice jingles to inform you that it was beginning and getting its work done.
The biggest flaws were its simple app and the necessity to change out the modules whenever switching between vacuuming and mopping. The app cannot save multiple maps. This can be a problem if your home has several floors. The Matrix Plus is a good choice for people who want a smart robot that can do both mopping and vacuuming.
The Yiko X1 Omni
The X1 Omni robot vacuum is the most expensive in our review. However, it has distinct features that make it worth looking into. The X1 Omni's biggest draw is its huge dock which doubles as a charging base and housing for two 4 liter water tanks, a sink for cleaning as well as a 2.5-liter dust bin that automatically eliminates.
The base also comes with a set of buttons to control the system. These allow you to start cleaning, recall the robot cleaner, or use the dock's automatic vacuum cleaner emptying process. Hold down two of the buttons to switch on a child lock that is a great option for parents concerned about children playing with the vacuum.
Similar to other robotic vacuums, the X1 Omni utilizes its camera to detect furniture and obstacles in its path and eliminate them. True Mapping 2.0 navigation maps your home up to four times faster than laser detection systems.
Unfortunately, this means that the X1 Omni will occasionally get caught up in obstacles, like a power cord draped across a rug, that it gets stuck and stops working until you free it. This was a rare incident however it was frustrating since the X1 does not have a "stuck status" alert in its application.
The X1 Omni is unable to automatically switch from mopping to vacuuming mode during the cleaning process. You'll need to manually switch between the two, which isn't too bad except for the fact that the mopping pads aren't washed and dried between use, which can lead to mildew or mold.
On the positive side it's worth noting that the X1 Omni is a beautiful-looking robot thanks to the design team at Jacob Jensen (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who dreamed up its modern and sleek base as well as mopping pad apparatus. It's a big departure from the utilitarian all-black bases of competitors like Roborock or iRobot. It's also a welcome sight for the market that is dominated by boxy models.
